In many ways, Johannes Brahms’ A German Requiem serves more as a comfort to the living than as a traditional Requiem for the dead. The composer chose texts from scripture depicting the peace and mercy the Lord shows toward the departed, yet without any overt Christian references; indeed, Brahms is said to have once called the work “A Human Requiem.” This masterpiece will be performed in English, using Brahms’ own version for four-hand piano, with Linda McGinn and Amy Sager, and featuring Stuart Dameron, baritone, and Laudamus’ own Evelyn Bruxvoort, soprano.
